Pharmacist Independent Prescriber:

DPP Supervision

Pharmacy Clinic Edinburgh - Complementary Course

Are you training as a Pharmacist Independent Prescriber, and need a DPP with supervising hours?

Look no further! Pharmacy Clinic Edinburgh are proud to introduce our Independent Prescribing with DPP Supervision - Complimentary Course.

This course runs alongside your university PIP course, and aims to provide you with all the training, help and supervision you need to be successful!

What’s included in the course?

We aim to support all students wherever possible. If you decided you want to come onboard the course with us, and you need something not listed below, please still get in touch! We’ll do our best to accommodate you!

  • This is supervised prescribing. Our DPP pharmacist will supervise your consultations and prescriptions while you practice and hone your skills.

You’ll be expected to attend the clinic in person before your course starts, to plan in all your hours.

Some universities expect students to split their supervised hours over several different DPPs. In this case, you will be expected to find and manage your time with other DPPs on your own.

  • You’ll have supportive training on conducting high quality, thorough and sensitive consultations, both for your chosen speciality and for a wide range of other common ailments and prescription types.

  • You’ll get training, advice and practice with conducting physical examinations, and using equipment such as stethoscopes and otoscopes.

  • You’ll implement prescribing of appropriate antimicrobials, using frameworks and NICE guidance, and learning how and where to exercise your professional judgement with the use of antibiotics.

  • All pharmacists will naturally be familiar with the format of a well-written prescription. However, knowing the best layouts of legal requirements, when to include supporting notes, writing clear directions and various other elements that will help you to be the best prescriber you can be.

  • For many university courses this is a requirement. Get expert advice and supervision when prescribing certain medicines off-license.

  • Practice prescribing for common clinical conditions using our own Patient Specific Directions. These documents have been developed using BNF, NICE, NHS and manufacturer guidance, to ensure clear care pathways and responsible prescribing.

Practicing your prescribing using these documents gives you the skills in reasoning and decision-making when it comes to prescribing, for a wide range of conditions.

When you pass the university course, you’ll get to choose a set of PSDs to keep for your own use and practice.

What is the cost for the course?

Our DPP supervision course for pharmacist independent prescribers costs £2500. This covers all components of your time here. We are unable to accept students for free training or shadowing at this time.
